The Really Useful Company Asia Pacific – STRAT programme for Commercial Theatre Production

The Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), in partnership with The Really Useful Company Asia Pacific (RUCAP), is pleased to offer an apprenticeship opportunity at RUCAP’s Sydney offices in Commercial Theatre Production.

RUCAP is part of The Really Useful Group, a top commercial West End theatrical producer. The company is well-known by musical theatre lovers for its production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s works.

During the 6-9 month attachment programme, the trainee will be actively engaged in the planning and management of new and touring musical productions. The training is scheduled to commence by October 2010. Trainees will be paid a training allowance for the duration of the training and will be required to serve employment in Singapore-based companies for 2 years upon completion of the training.

The Strategic Attachment and Training (STRAT) Programme is an initiative by the Economic Development Board (EDB) to build up key manpower capabilities in Singapore’s workforce for emerging sectors and activities, through overseas attachment and training with leading companies. EDB in conjunction with The Really Useful Company Asia Pacific (RUCAP) is offering a unique opportunity for one trainee to spend 6-9 months working in the RUCAP offices in Sydney, Australia. 

The Really Useful Theatre Company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s the Really Useful Group. The Really Useful Company Asia Pacific (RUCAP) based in Sydney is responsible for the licensing and production of the works of Andrew Lloyd Webber in Australia, Asia, New Zealand and South Africa. Recent productions include The Phantom of the Opera to Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taipei and Korea, a 10 city tour of CATS to China, Korean language tours of The Phantom of the Opera and CATS. Concert tours to China, Singapore and Hong Kong of The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber and licensed productions of Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph and the amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Starlight Express, Evita and The Beautiful Game.

Are you aspiring to work in Musical Theatre Production? Do you thrive in a dynamic and ever changing environment where you know the biggest reward is bringing pleasure to audiences in Theatres around the globe? Do you have a wide interest in Musical Theatre Production where one minute you can focus on the fine details of a production budget and the next minute work on a Marketing strategy? Do you have what it takes to assist moving a Touring Company of over 50 staff, ensure they all know where to be and when, and troubleshoot and think on your feet when plans suddenly change? Do you have a good sense of humor, an ability to adapt to change quickly and enjoy the dynamic of the creative process? Do you have the ability and experience to work unsupervised and use your initiative but also work as part of a highly motivated and creatively thinking team?

Interested applicants should have a degree in either Marketing or Commerce, or have a minimum of 2 years experience working in the Arts or Entertainment Industry. An understanding or appreciation of the creative process and a commitment and interest in the performing arts essential.

Under this programme, trainees will be sent to Sydney, Australia for 6-9 months of training and attachment at RUCAP. The training is scheduled to commence by October 2010. Trainees will be paid a training allowance for the duration of the training and will be required to serve employment in Singapore-based companies for 2 years upon completion of the training.
